JILL STEIN KICKS OFF GREEN-RAINBOW GUBERNATORIAL BID

Jill Stein for governor

Outgoing GRP co-chair Jill Stein will kick off her campaign for governor of Massachusetts at 11am on Monday, February 8th, on the steps of the State House. A note from Jill: "If you've had enough of bailouts, layoffs, sweetheart deals, unaffordable health care, cruel foreclosures, crushing costs of war and foot-dragging on the climate crisis - this is the campaign for you! Together we can break the stranglehold of lobbyists and insiders, and get Beacon Hill back to work for the ordinary people of the Commonwealth, building the healthy, secure green future we so urgently need.

By standing with us at the State House, you will help us show that the voters of Massachusetts want REAL change on Beacon Hill - change that can save our jobs, our health care, our communities, and our future."

GRP SAYS BROWN VICTORY REFLECTS NEW POWER OF BREAK-AWAY PROGRESSIVES, NOT A REPUBLICAN SURGE

With the surprise victory of Scott Brown over Martha Coakley in Tuesday’s special Senate election the conventional wisdom regarding the dominance of the Democratic Party in Obama-era Massachusetts has been shattered. But in the scramble to understand what the voters said on Tuesday a fundamental lesson is being missed. This was a voters' revolt against a Democratic Party beholden to special interests - not a sudden conversion of Ted Kennedy supporters to Republican ranks.

Jill Stein, Green-Rainbow Party co-chair, will enter 2010 gubernatorial race

Green-Rainbow Party co-chair Jill Stein, who ran for Governor in 2002 and Secretary of the Commonwealth in 2006, has announced that she intends to enter the 2010 gubernatorial race. The State House News Service broke the story and the Boston Herald picked it up. In a note to supporters, Stein wrote, "Business as usual is still taking a heavy toll on our jobs, health, communities and environment, pushing us towards the brink. More than ever, the old paradigm of infinite growth and corporate profiteering is colliding with the physics of a finite world, and the morality of a human one. More than ever, there is cause to rise up for justice, survival and the future we deserve."

Green Mass Group enters the rainbow of "Mass Groups"

The Green-Rainbow Party is pleased to welcome Green Mass Group to the Massachusetts blogosphere. Green Mass Group "seeks to move the political discussion beyond the sniping and mudslinging that characterize too many blogs, and to create a forum for conversation about justice, sustainability, democracy and health in the Commonwealth and beyond." While not affiliated with the Green-Rainbow Party, they claim to be "friendly towards the Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts and the Green Party nationally and internationally." Open Media Boston welcomed Green Mass Group to the Massachusetts political landscape, while Blue Mass Group commented on the emerging rainbow of brightly colored "Mass Groups."

Voters Deserve Open Senate Debates

Including independent candidate Joseph L. Kennedy in the upcoming Senate election debates is important, according to Green-Rainbow Party Green-Rainbow Co-chair Michael Horan. “Voters deserve to hear more voices, not fewer. After all, the largest voting bloc in the state are the independents who have declined to join either the Democratic or Republican parties. They account for about half of the state’s registered voters. Why should we force these voters to listen to only to a Democrat and a Republican?”

Green-Rainbow Party says: Repeal Sales Tax Hike!

The sales tax hike recently enacted by the Massachusetts Legislature is an unfair burden upon taxpayers and should be repealed, according to the Green-Rainbow Party (GRP). A proposal that passed unanimously at a recent GRP State Committee meeting noted that when all taxes and fees are considered, lower income residents of Massachusetts already pay at a rate almost twice as high as the highest income brackets. DiMasi Indictment Just Tip of the Iceberg Says Green-Rainbow Party

Responding to the recent indictment of former Speaker of the House Sal DiMasi, the Green-Rainbow Party called for a “deep overhaul” of the political system on Beacon Hill. Party Co-chair Eli Beckerman called the indictment “the tip of the iceberg”, asserting that “influence peddling is a way of life on Beacon Hill, and very little of it ever results in an indictment. It’s costing taxpayers billions of dollars and crippling the ability of state government to effectively deal with mounting problems in virtually every sector of public life.” Read the press release here.
